Sandbox codes

The game stores your choices as a sandbox code: copy it from the Sandbox Options window, share it, or put it in a dedicated server's serverconfig.xml as SandboxCode. The builder below makes the same code: change the options you want and copy the result, or paste a code to see what it sets.

Performance related

SettingShipped valueWhat it does
MaxSpawnedZombies64This count covers the entire world. It is scaled based on use case (x1.9 blood moons, x2.1 sleepers). Changing this setting can have a huge impact on performance.
MaxSpawnedAnimals50If your server has a large number of players you can increase this limit to add more wildlife. Animals don't consume as much CPU as zombies. NOTE: That this doesn't cause more animals to spawn arbitrarily: The biome spawning system only spawns a certain number of animals in a given area, but if you have lots of players that are all spread out then you may be hitting the limit and can increase it.
ServerMaxAllowedViewDistance12Max view distance a client may request (6 - 12). High impact on memory usage and performance.
MaxQueuedMeshLayers1000Maximum amount of Chunk mesh layers that can be enqueued during mesh generation. Reducing this will improve memory usage but may increase Chunk generation time

Questions

What are sandbox options in 7 Days to Die?

The custom game settings of the new-game screen: 165 options in 8 tabs, from player damage and zombie speed to loot, crafting, traders and quests. Presets fill them all at once.

How do I use sandbox options on a dedicated server?

Set the options here or in the game, copy the sandbox code and put it in serverconfig.xml as the value of SandboxCode. The server applies it when it creates a new game.

What is a sandbox code?

A short string of letters that holds every option set away from its default: "A", then three letters per option (two for the option, one for its choice). An empty code ("A") means all defaults.
